Apologies

Hello All,

I'm sorry its been so long in updating!  I have been away at school and have been busy with school work, and all that.   Another thing thats been consuming time is my new job as a photographer for Siena College.  I am a work study for the communications department and Sergio, my boss has been sending me on numerous photoshoots.  I've done school events such as plays, concerts, speeches and the basketball games.  For those of you who don't follow college basketball, Siena is up there and had made it to the tournament last year so our games get pretty big publicity in the area.  I have a press pass and have access to a spot on the floor and get to take shots and hang with the media, which is really cool.  I've been assigned to take more shots of student sections and got some great shots.  I won't post anything i've been shooting recently because there is just too much, i've taken over 700 photographs.

I've also been told that my photographs have landed a spot in the college news magazine that circulates to homes around the area, alumni, students, faculties and their families all across the country, which is pretty awesome.

Oh yea! I'm getting a new lens for christmas too.  Canon 28-135 mm, f 3.5-5.6.  Very excited.  I will be upgrading to a new bag also because I have too much equipment.

Now that I am home for the winter, please look out for updates on my deviant art and here because I will be concentrating on more artistic shoots, instead of the commercial shoots I've been sent on.  That is it for all.  Enjoy.

Montauk!

So on Saturday, David and I took our adventure out east to Montauk.  It was a great way to end the summer since i leave for school tomorrow.  Out in Montauk we rode bikes (with my new bike david built me!) to Gossman's dock, bought skim boards and hit up the beach with the surfers where I learned to skimboard.  It was fun but im definitely sooo sore and fell alot.  After the beach we got some eats and went to an art show.  I definitely think i will start investing in a printer so I can enlarge my photos and put them on canvas.  I got some great ideas from that art show!  After that we headed over the montauk point and adventured behind the light house and wrote our names in the infamous log : ) hahaha. Anyways, here are some photos from the adventure.  I really had the best time.

ps im frustrated with blogger ...do you know how long it took for me to write this entry??.. they arent letting me upload my edited photography.... so please check out my deviantart for the edited stuff! thanks!

Updates! Updates! News! News!

IM A FINALIST!

That photography contest I had entered back like a month ago contacted me back!  Newsday (long island paper) let me know my photo was selected as a finalist and will be in this saturdays paper!  I'm so happy it got chosen, but more-so, allowed in.  I had recently changed emails so while they were contacting me about my photo, stupid me wasn't checking my old email!! So! i discovered this in time/little late luckily and I had called the lady to give in my information.  She asked me questions like: are you a professional, what's your age, where do you live, tell me about the photo.  In case you were wondering, the photo that was selected was "Lovers" (refer to beach photography or my deviant art). Thank god she got in touch with the editor to let her know that i was still existent because now it will be in the paper and I am still a valid finalist! YAYAY.
Here are answers to those questions when she interviewed me, along with the photo:

1. Yes, I consider myself a photographer. I have been shooting for 5 years now. I am a freelance/independent shooter. Professionally though, I don't consider myself that.
2. My full name is Lisa Heimerle.
3. I am currently 19 years old.
4. I live in Smithtown.
5. I titled this photo "Lovers". It was shot at Short Beach in Smithtown where the rock is off the coast and into the waters of the Long Island Sound. I love this photo because it evokes the powerful emotion of love and dependance. I love that fact that they are cut off from the main land and society. I think this photo goes to show that these people (as well as others) are better off by themselves, without the influence of others. On the other hand, all they need is each other, a good friend, a lover. They are lonely yet connected and its the irony, which really gets me. I decided to to this photograph because it caught my eye. When I see something that makes me think a little more about what is going on, I try to translate that through my camera and into a photo. I do not know who these people are, but I do know that they were good friends/lovers, having a good time. Further, I think the black and white gives it a little something extra.

______________

Anyways, I went out on a photoshoot.  Nothing to extreme, just revisited Long Beach around the time was the sun was setting.  I absolutely love what wonders the sun can do with lighting and all that.  Here are a select few.  Nothing to intense, just some light work and silhouettes exercises.  Model: Jnet.

okies okies, i'll keep you updated! I'm sorry its been such a long gap in between.  I've been away from the computer.

Painting

So today my painting fell off the wall and I finally got to take it out of the frame that was hanging in the dining room.  The humidity is so bad here that the frame just fell!  Well anyways, this is a painting i did a few years back.  It was an assignment in studio art.  If you can recall, i had a flower photo i took.  It was my first artistic photograph.  When my instructor told the class we had to paint a picture we liked (from a magazine, or anything else), i chose my own.

Here's the photograph:

And here's the painting:
close up:

The image i sketched on to the canvas was cropped/zoomed from the original photography, obviously. It's an 18x14' painting.  The base was done with a water base just to get the main color background.  Then after, I began painting in acrylic on top, which is what you see here.  I sketched the original photograph by dividing the photograph in fours.  I also divided the canvas into four sections and took each section at a time.  The hardest part i had with this painting was the shadow you see in the center of the flower that is cast by one of the petals.  Painting a shadow is hard!  Originally, I set out by using black for the shadow and i planned on toning it down with other color to gray.  No. But that wasn't right.  I have to say my instructor helped me out a little by direction.  She told me to go about painting the flower like it was and then use a watered down milky yellow on top.  There is probably 59 different layers under the shadow portion of the painting haha.

I must say I enjoy painting and wish i had more time for it.  It's fun transferring my own photography into a painting form.  There are many altercations you can make and create from your own work and its fun to experiment.

okies okies enjoy : )

Venice Beach, California... some old photos

I don't really like these so much... my good edited ones got deleted when i decided to restore my whole mac bc im stupid ! hahaha

These are from last year, last summer when i went out west with my family...unfortunately these were taken with my olympus camera.  Not the rebel.  : \ w/e most of my early stuff was shot with that camera.  Again, not my favouite photos but this grafitti park was amazing.  Such a great place.

So this summer so far has been alright, work sucks.  I might be getting another job.  This economy sucks right now and its impossible to do anything.  But ill tell you that the beach is good clean fun.   I dont no if it so much clean though.  Me and david walked to the end of robert moses field five to fire island.   On the way we walked past a nude beach.  COMPLETELY comfortable.

Not at all.  It was probably the most awk we've ever felt.  And i know its safe to talk for david on this one.  hahaha especially with all naked old gay guys.  bahahahahah

But none the less we had fun and made the best of it... can you tell?

Me and david went to the Trophy Scars welcome back show at school of rock in south hackensack nj.   I had a lotta fun! love love love shows.  I was kinda disappointed with trophy scars' new stuff though.  Its kinda jazzy ish and def not approapriate to play at shows bc they lost momentum in their set.

Anyways.  two bands i liked.  Red Light Green Light and Lady Radiator.  Check them out becuase they put on a great show!
okeisokies short entry i know but yea.. heres some photos of Red Light Green Light

Busyyy

So, just taking some time to update... I dont have any photos for you this entry.  But i do have to say that I just entered about 10 photos in a photography contest hosted by my newspaper.  They were looking for photos that capture how 21st century life is lived on long island.  "send us entries that show how we relax, celebrate, support and honor our families and our values, how we face challenges, how we cope or dont and even how we mourn."

We'll see what happensssss! I dont no when they are supposed to get back to me.
okeisokies and here acutally is a photo that isnt on my website.  it was taken a while ago but when i came across it, it struck me. in a good way.

Bound Brook, NJ Bike Race

So tired... worked 11.30 to 8.30 today. To top it off, I got poison ivy from my last photoshootttttttt hahaha lucky me.

So yesturday I went to my first bike race! -- with david and scott. It was fun! Acutally this whole weekend was the best ever. I experimented with taking photos and i must say that it was kind of a challenge becuase it was all action shots. I really don't do much sports/action because i like doing still life and being able to take control but i think doing sports (bike racing in particular) will add another dimension to my photography. Hopefully I go to some more races to play with my fisheye more and yea.
Oh Oh Oh! It is quite possible i will be investing in a telephoto since my parents came out and admitted I needed one after taking shots at the Air Show at Jones Beach. Hearing that i need that lens directly from my parents is music to my ear hahahah. well here are some shots from Bound Brook Bike race in new jersey from this weeknd. Next blog Ill add maybe some shots from the air show. we'll see.
Click to enlarge. In this you will see Chris Worden, Bert and other people i don't know or people i know but don't know their names (sorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry).
okieokiesokies enjoy tell your friends (ps. these are only 5 outta about 15, if you have any questions if i have any more photos of you (which i probably do), email me or what not or get in touch with david). Thanks!

Home Sweet Home

Today me and jnet went on a photoshoot. First one in how longggg? about 7 monthes or so. It felt so good to have the camera in my hand directing what i wanted. I think im only comfortable with having jnet as my model as of now because I know she won't be like THIS IS STUPID or NO! THATS WEIRD. anyways. I took control of wardrobe this time around. usually, we just shoot in whatever she's wearing that day. Today's shoot included glasses and a lipring. We revisited certain sites. One was under the train tracks (that we almost got hit on 2 winter's ago) and the woods in landing at an abandon shack (refer to "Heavan's Lost). check them out. let me know what you think. I changed my tag. It's time for change. I also used the fisheye and i think im getting it d0wnnnnnnnn finally. It was a good day. : )
let me know what you think.
click to enlarge i suppose. acutally... just click, to see details and the main idea and feeling of it. thats what i want you viewers to get from my posts.. the feel of the photo.

Overwhelmed

Tooooo much going on right now.  Too much work, too much school, too much sociableness...i need a break.

Good news is that i am encountering wonderful weather! And soon I'll be able to travel, take some new photos, be home with jnet, my model, and finally a good amount of time to work on my portfolio book.  I did a print out of all my photos on deviant art and probably used about 150 pages? oooooops.  haha.  Anyways, a girl on my team told me that they are charging for each piece of paper you print on.  Yikes!  But i later found that false--thats good or else i would've been paying probably about $250 in paper fees.

I am coming down to the end of the photos that are on deviant art.  So the next few blog entries will be the misc. photos.  I've been thinking about interning/apprenticing for a studio in town by my house.  The place is called Renaissance Studios.  They do a lot of wedding/ portrait, some landscape photography.  However, any of this will help.  If i get some jobs with david's soon to be brother in law's friend (try and follow that) who does wedding photography that would be great also!
okiesokies, here, click and enjoy!

Above: My very first artistic photo!  Taken with macro setting on my old camera... old old crappy digital camera.  I actually painted this in acrylic 2 years ago.  I really like how that came out.

Above:  Model, Jnet.  Taken in the woods along the Nissoquauge river.  Abandon shack.  Title: Heaven's Lost.

Above:  Model, Jnet.  This was a funnnnny day let me tell you.  We almost got hit by a train taking photos because the setting was along, under a train track bridge.  I like the zig zag, composition where the lines lead off the page and how her weight balances the photo.  I also like the contrast.

Workin it

So, I've begun my portfolio/book.  I redid the cover, i really like it.  Ill show you the shot thats on the cover down below.  I think i'm going to divide the book in chapters like i've done on this blog.  Like beach photography, armory shoots, etc.  what do you think? The school probably hates me becuase I printed out all of my photography from deviant art as a way of managing what i've used in the book.  Putting it in print serves as a way of managing by hand and not on computer.  The template im using for the pages is... photo, technical info (f.stop, shutter speed, model of camera etc.) and then comments.. like i do here.  I'm quite excited.

And my intro, i decided will be a quote my andy warhol.. an artist i adore.. for his work and his sarcasm..

Isn't life a series of images that change as they repeat themselves?

Thats appropriate, don't you think... well i thinks so.  This might be all i do for my intro.   I may ask my prof, the one who got me into photography class next semester, if i should do an artist statement, but that would be hard considering you usually do one for a piece... not a book full of pieces.

Here's a preview of the cover im doing.. well just the photo on the cover that i took back in octoberish/november when i went to the city with david.  Taken in Bryant Park.

Title: Observation Holds Truth.
Alot of contrast, so it would be nice to click on it to get the details.

that is all for now.

All out

Just finished an 8 page paper... thank god.  So much going on right now.  Toooo much.  Alotta learning.  Not going into it but here are some photos to view.

Above: Taken here at Siena College in Albany NY after an ice storm.  Lighting was great, nice how the sun hit the ice and it glistened.  Very colorful.

Below: Photoshoot with Jnet.  We originally planned on doing photography of her Nike collection.  I guess ill see what i do when i go home.  The photo shoot was taken at my favorite place, nissoquauge park on landing ave.  so many adventures there.  I like the second photo alot.  Something about the framing that gets me.  David suggests i do the first shot over with a fisheye.  It's a good idea.  More photoshoots to be happening with jnet this summer, since she is my model and is very flexible with what i want her to do.

More photos to be added within a few days.  Everything's just been ridiculously hectic.  Taking photos will sure help.

oh oh!  declared a major: Marketing and Management with a concentration in Marketing.  And i decided to minor in creative arts.  It will help with my major and make me happy.  Next semester I am taking Digital Photography.  There was only one class offered next semester with 12 people in it so i email my professor from last semester of basic design and told her i am minoring in creative arts.  She actually wanted me to major in the arts before i had even given it any thought last semester.  She knows i love photography and since she is the prof of it, she got me in! im so excited!

More Photography..Boston

So catching up with the photography on my deviant art account. Here are two photos from Boston. I wasn't too happy with how my roll came out..I took about 70 pictures and only liked two. The lighting was kinda yucky because it was rainy out. but here are two that are so-so. I definitely like the architecture photo better...taken with the fisheye. This was later in the day when the sun came out.

As always, click to enlarge.

Then there's this photo of David. High contrast, mono. Fisheye.
So still no progress on the book. I've just had too much school work to be doing it. I really would like to get it done before late June because I could enter the book in a photography contest sponsored by Blurb. We'll seee though.

Happy Happy..Mutiny Video

Yayayayay.  So billy just sent me this Mutiny Spring 08 Video and its great.  I love riding videos.... enjoy!

Good stuff! It makes me so happy because it reminds me of when i was home watching my friends ride. I also liked the Mutiny Stoked on Being Pumped video. There are a ton of riding vids in my favorites folder but this is a new video i just wanted to post that really got me.

Oh yea.. and this is from yesturday after it rained.

Stupid raindrops makes the rainbow look like its melting hahahahah.
It was sunny and i looked out of my window and saw the sun shining in an odd way. Then a rainbow began to appear so i jumped up and changed lens and ran outside. Slowly as the sun began to peak out a little more, a full rainbow was created. I never saw anything in my life like this so naturally i got excited and ran all over campus wht my camera around my shoulder. When i was running i stepped in a pothole LOL. but yea... we'll see, maybe some images could be used in a catolog for the schoool. naaaa meannnn?

Some Bikes..

Billy, my broski, decided to make the change from skateboarding to BMX so he's been practicing on his old mongoose bikeee haha... right now he's saving up to buy david's bmx bike which is probably 384729347 lbs lighter no joke.

I decided to take some photos and play with my camera because it was finally dece out today.  Last time i did some bmx photography was at Brooklyn Banks in NYC in november.. so it's been a while.  I only took a few photos because there wasn't a lot to work with.

All moves are jethops since he just started and the bike is really heavy (and he has to build up some muscle LOL).  But yea... enjoy. Please also note that these photos are conceptual, only one action.  I tried using my fisheye but i need more practice since it is manual focus.  Look for more use of the fisheye on action photos in the future. Right now i'm using the fisheye for conceptual.

Thanksssssssssssss!

ps. these are NOT up on deviant art, so im usign this post as a preview i guess?
